Possui graduação em Graduação em Química - Universidad de Barcelona (1994) e doutorado em Bioquimica - Universidad de Barcelona (2002). Atualmente é pesquisadora em saúde pública do Centro de Pesquisas Gonçalo Moniz (CPqGM/FIOCRUZ/Ba) e bolsista de produtividade nível 2 do CNPq. Também é professora permanente da Pós-graduação em Biotecnologia e Medicina Investigativa do CPqGM. Tem experiência na área de biologia molecular e celular, com ênfase em oncologia molecular, atuando principalmente em linfomas cutâneos com enfase em leucemia/linfoma das células T do adulto e nas doenças associadas ao HTLV-1 na faixa infanto-juvenil. Também coordena projetos que visam promover o cuidado em saúde em comunidades rurais e divulgar os aspectos clínicos e sociais relacionados com a infecção pelo HTLV-1.
