Dear colleagues,
I hope that this message will find you with good health.
I am a professor at PPgCS Post-Graduation Program and I have been coordinating, together with Professor Ricardo Khouri, a project that resulted in the derivation and validation of a Chikungunya prognosis score, SHERA, which has supported actions to mitigate the physical and emotional consequences of the disease. The work is one of the 11 selected, among more than 1600 initiatives from all over Brazil, for the Euro Innovation in Health Award and is part of the doctoral thesis of the student of the MD / PhD program at FMB, Thiago Cerqueira-Silva.
The score assesses the persistence of arthralgia for more than one year, with accuracy between 70 and 81% in the validation and derivation cohorts, respectively. The first article was recently accepted for publication in the magazine Plos Neglected Tropical Disease. Now we are continuing to investigate three candidate molecules as a therapeutic target for Chikungunya. This award will be very important for the continuity of the project, considering the difficulty in obtaining resources with the epidemic.
We need the vote of colleagues and medical students.
