Ricardo Khouri Cunha

Dr. Ricardo Khouri began his initial scientific research at Fiocruz in 2001 and graduated in Biology from Universidade Católica de Salvador in 2003. In 2009, he obtained the title of Doctor of Experimental Human Pathology from FIOCRUZ/Federal University of Bahia. From October 2006 to January 2014, he developed Research Projects in the Clinical Virology and Epidemiology laboratory for the Rega Institute for Medical Research at the Catholic University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) with Dr. Anne-Mieke Vandamme, evaluating the immunoactivation and disease progression in patients infected with human retroviruses (HIV and HTLV). Currently, he is dedicated to research in the integrated Immunorregulation and Microbiology (CPqGM/FIOCRUZ-Dr. Manoel Barral Netto) laboratory and the study of the initial immunological mechanisms during infection by Leishmania SSP and retrovirus.

He has experience in the field of cellular immunology, omics and data mining. He has had 13 full papers published in journals in recent years. He is currently Professor of Graduate Program in Health Sciences (UFBA) and the Graduate Program in Human Pathology (UFBA/FIOCRUZ). He has been awarded the “Scholarship for Attracting Young Talents from CNPq - level B.
